Session X3: Input, Output, Files, and Exceptions

In this laboratory session, you will implement versions of the SimpleInput and SimpleOutput classes that we have used in previous experiments. Along the way, you will learn about exceptions, one of Java's key mechanisms for dealing with run-time errors. The goals of this laboratory are to

• strengthen your knowledge of Java by guiding you through the development of important utility classes that you have used and will continue to use;
• motivate the need for run-time error detection and correction; and
• introduce file input and output.

Your instructor will tell you which of the proposed experiments you are to perform.

Prerequisite skills:

• Familiarity with the use of the SimpleInput and SimpleOutput classes
• Objects and classes in Java
• Arrays (optional)
