Admin

Making Eclipse Use Java 8

For some reason, not everyone's Eclipse is using Java 8. (You can tell which version it's using when you create a new project.) Here are some instructions that should get it working.

• Window > Preferences > Java > Installed JREs
• Add > Standard VM > Next
• Enter /opt/jdk1.8.0_11 for the JRE home.
• Enter jdk1.8.0_11 (or something similar) for the Name
• Click Finish.
• Click the checkbox next to that JRE.
• Click OK
• If you don't have the OpenJDK Java 7 (which the other class is using), you can use a similar process, but with the directory /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64.

Questions on HW3

• For the Name game, do we have to deal with strings with all capital letters? E.g., can nameGame("SAMR") return "bonana fanna fAMR"?
  • You can choose to convert to lowercase.
  • You can choose to leave as is.
  • Note that the capital letter at the beginning should not be your determining factor. Consider Shirley.
• Should we use individual assert statements or loop through lots?
  • I'd prefer that you loop through lots, because it makes more efficient use of your time.
