Overview

Today we will investigate applets and graphics in Java, primarily through lab-based experiences.

• Group choices are due today. Feel free to give your group an interesting name.
• The Math/CS picnic is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 1, in the West Shelter at Merrill Park. You are all invited to attend.
  • You must sign up on the sign-up sheet.
  • If you're on board, this is your Friday-night meal.
  • If you're not on board, we pick up the tab.
• Since many of you have indicated that you're considering becoming CS majors ... Once again, the CS faculty have received a note from the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) reminding us that students might want to form a student chapter. If you might be interested in forming a chapter, please talk to me (or let me know). More information on ACM student membership can be found at http://www.acm.org/membership/student/.   • Joey Lesh needs three people who are willing to become members of ACM ($15.00 to join) and seven more to join the chapter (but who don't have to join ACM).
• When you run appletviewer in the MathLAN, you may have to type a special command first. That command will appear when you first try to run appletviewer.
• For those of you who want more Java resources, I've recently found some Java^TM Programming Language Basics from Sun at http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/Programming/BasicJava1/.
• No discussion today ... just jump right into the lab after the introductory questions.
