Questions

The joy of certificates

  • To use secure HTTP (aka https) it needs a “certificate” on the server that provides some appropriate information.
    • Public key
    • Validation that the certificate is appropriate
  • Officially, the certificate should be signed by someone authoritative.
    • Many people didn’t like to pay, skipped HTTPS, self-signed certificate
  • Google designated itself a moral authority and made Chrome yell about these.

  • Your audience is non-technical. You generally won’t want to say too much about your technical achievements.
  • A sample approach
    • Introduce yourselves
    • Describe the community partner.
    • Describe the problem at hand.
    • Describe what you’ve done.
    • Show what you’ve done.
    • Talk about future work.
