Open Work Time and Demos

Up to this point, you've followed fairly scripted exercises. This section is an opportunity for you to choose your own direction in which to explore further. And when you build something or learn something, you should share with others.

Open Exploration

Spend about fifteen minutes doing something new to your Web résumé. You might simply put real information in there. You might explore some other aspect of Javascript, CSS, or HTML. You might just have some fun.

Demos

• I'll bring up each person's page in turn.
• That person will describe some aspect of their page that they consider worth sharing (e.g., an aspect of CSS, HTML, or Javascript that they learned).
• Others will have the opportunity to ask about other aspects of their page.

Finishing Up

You've probably had enough with Web stuff right now. And you probably don't want to leave your work as your Grinnell Web presence. So let's disable access. (We'll leave the page there, just in case you want to look at it later; we'll just tell the Web server not to pay attention to it.)

• Open a terminal window if you don't have one open.

• Type the following incantation (with no period or ampersand this time).

  chmod 700 public_html
  

• Try loading your page through the Web browser. If all goes well, you should see an error message.
