Spent some time working on networking stuff with little success






2010-04-19

1300 - 1400:
Created a working echo server that supports messages of arbitrary length.
Successfully used select to support multiple clients.
I was unable to use select to echo messages from one client to all of the
rest while supporting commandline input on clients. Perhaps this is
something for threads? 

2000 - 2200

I explained select to my peers. I am not sure if they understood it. Even if they did understand it, it is not clear they did anything with the knowledge.

I retooled my client and server classes to properly use select. The server gained the ability to host multiple clients and echo input from any one client to the rest of the clients. Clients were able to read from stdin and the server "simultaenously" using select.

Next step: figure out how to close the sockets! 

Then I discussed things with my group, who seem less enthusiastic to me than I do.

1800 - 2000

Did some more high level design with my teammates and then started adapting our existing client/server to use pickle. This took much longer than expected, mostly because I was an idiot and couldn't code to save my life. I attribute that to how ill I felt on Teuesday night.

Monkeyed around a bit more with client.py, trying to add the abstraction necesasry to add the "handle different types of data fromt he server" functionality, but whatever I did didn't work, so I decided not to commit.
