Time Log for Nora Coon 4/11 7-7:15 Administrative work for group 7:15-7:30 Standardized code documentation as recommended in class. Explored UML diagram and tried to choose work priorities. 7:30-7:45 Reviewed code. Came up with plan for evening. Decided to implement the basic Game of Life as our test case. Decided to modify code from other groups for predicate.py. 7:45-8:00 Modified and implemented predicate files. 8-8:30 Tried to figure out multidimensional arrays in Python. With very little success. 8:30-9 Kept working on localworld.py and tried to implement using lists of lists. 4/12 5:30-5:45 Analyzed and tried to understand code written by other group. 5:45-6 Learned how to use multidimensional arrays - matrices - in Python. 6-6:15 Modified localworld.py, creature.py, and species.py and began testing in Python3. 6:15-6:30 MADE LOCALWORLD.PY ACTUALLY GENERATE A GRID!!!! HOORAY! 6:30-7 Improved localworld methods, including toString(), toSerialize(), fromSerialize(). Created testclass.py to contain basic tests of function. Tested testclass.py and was pleased at success. 4/14 8-8:15 Caught up on progress with group members. 8:15-8:45 Worked on textual user interface (TUI) 8:45-9 Worked on testclass.py trying to implement and improve unit tests. 9-10 Continued working on testclass. 4/17 12:45 Began experimenting with tKinter. 1:20 Began trying to construct a Main Menu for the GUI. 2:40 Finished rudimentary Main Menu with buttons (no event handlers yet.) 4/20 7:00 Debug Main Menu and GraphicsUI problems 7:35 Begin implementing SingleUser game screen 8:30 Added initial working version of SingleUserScreen to svn. Began trying to improve display of buttons and entry fields. Debugging MainMenu button in SingleUserScreen. 9:00 Stopped work for the night. 4/21 6:00 Began implementing radiobutton version of species selection menu. Commented out to allow for group choice as to which should be used. 6:50 Preliminary implementation of radiobutton menu finished. Began researching how to change width of Button, Entry, and Listbox widgets to avoid unseemly highlighting currently happening. 7:15 Began putting widgets into frames. 8:00 Put Entry and Listbox into frames to fix grey area problem, but same solution didn't work for bound buttons. Switching to research on how else to control grey space. 8:45 Stopped for the night. No progress on controlling grey space. 4/24 2:00 Group meeting. Explaining current code and GUI project status. 3:00 Creat diagram of all classes and their functions. 3:30 Consider using grid instead of pack. Go through code with group. 4/27 6:45 Begin reviewing changes to code. Read more about tkinter and looked at Button factories in tkinter. 8:45 Paused work to switch locations. 4/28 7:00 Began pair-programming w/ Jordan and Aaron. 8:30 Have been working on fixing the appearance of Menu and BoardSetup, as well as repeatedly testing and debugging various classes. 9:00 Have been testing and debugging BoardSetup. Also reformatted code to fit standards (<80 chars/line) 9:30 Pass testing off to Josh. 5/2 2:00-3:00 Began learning about networks. Worked on testing and debugging DummyListener and DummyWorld as well as pickling enumerated types (not actually possible), which we converted to a non-nested class. 3-3:30 continued testing and debugging, trying to make sendSpecies() work. 5/3 8-9 AM review code in tandem with readings on networks and sockets. 5/4 7:00-8:00 Working on understanding code. Made network accept a client successfully. 8:00-9:00 Debugging methods in worldserver.py. Work on problem of netsetup accepting clients after acceptclients has already run; create a true/false flag to prevent. 9:00-9:30 Updated Direction import statements so that everything will work. 5/5 8-8:30 Tried to figure out how to get clients to send messages to the server, i.e. lists of instructions. 8:30-9 Research on sockets. 9-10 debugging/high-level discussion about how turns should work 11-12 More research on sockets. 5/6-5/13 forgot about time log. spent some hours (would estimate 4) working on buildcreature gui, but cold meds meant that my code was generally terrible and so was not checked in. 5/14-5/20 5/15: Spent 1.5 hrs trying to clean up some of the packing in the Species Editor, but ended up breaking it. Restored to original version. 5/17: Spent 2 hours creating a working Credits GUI. 5/18 Spent 1 hour linking Credits to Menu and cleaning up everything/debugging.
