Assignment

Build a "portfolio" Web site for yourself. It need not be large (most of you are young), but it should look good and should show some thought about how you break things up.

Add a link to your portfolio Web site to the repo.

HTML Basics

• A markup language.
• A hybrid markup language.
  • Logical: What role do pieces of text play?
  • Physical: What appearance do pieces of text have?
• Evolved from SGML.
• Surround text with "tags"
  • <tag> ... </tag>
• Look on the Web to learn more.

CSS Basics

• Separate formatting instructions from HTML.
• Lets you give consistent formatting across documents.
• Lets you quickly change formatting across documents.
• "Cascades"
  • Items get the characteristics of their parents.
  • Multiple style sheets let you combine characteristics.
• Look on the Web to learn more.
