  • This is a course intended to help you learn computational thinking, develop problem-solving skills, and introduce you to the functional model of computation/programming.
• Scheme programming, Computational Thinking, Functional Problem Solving, How to build software (testing), General skills, …

  • Be kind.
  • Be snarky. Snark is love. (Maybe “snark is life”, for Ted Lasso fans.)
  • Speak up when your professor behaves inappropriately
  • The Tennis team has an easy in-conference schedule (see “be snarky”)
  • Aesthetics of code are important
  • Don’t spend fifteen hours working on a homework assignment, even if you’re having fun doing so.
    • And it’s not fifteen hours when you’re simultaneously watching a TV show and playing Smash Bros.
  • Use Math [+1]
  • It’s good to have ethics
  • Practice getting out of your comfort zone and working with people you don’t know. [+3]
  • Listening to others.
  • It’s okay to ask questions when you don’t understand. Advocate for yourself.
  • Time management. (Forced upon you by astoundingly reasonable workload.) [+1]
  • Self confidence.
  • Snark is amazing. “You need a Caden.”
  • Sometimes students dominate discussion in class. Ignore them.
  • Five important things.
    • You are awesome.
    • People care about you.
    • You have a responsibility to take of your ourselves.
    • Be moderate.
    • Consent is essential but insufficient.

EOCEs

• The mentor and I will leave during this portion of the class. Someone will need to grab us after you are finished.
