Extra Course Evaluation

I find that standard course evaluation forms, even thorough ones like the department provides, don't give me all the information I need about the courses I teach, particularly about the use of web resources in the class. This additional form gives you further opportunity to comment on those web resources and on other aspects of the course.

I realize that you've answered some of these questions on an earlier survey. I would appreciate it if you'd answer them again, reflecting on the full term rather than just the first half.

You are required to fill out this survey. Since students in this class have failed to fill out similar surveys in the past, you will receive a number after you finish the survey and you must bring that number to the final. An assistant will check the number off on a list. I will not (and can not) use the number to identify you.

Class Participation

How did knowledge that class participation would be part of your final grade affect your participation in class?

It didn't
Negatively
Positively

At times, I called on people by name. Sometimes this was using a random student generator, sometimes I tried to go row by row, sometimes I just called on people who I thought had something to contribute or who hadn't spoken recently.

How did you feel about being called on in class (as opposed to simply volunteering)?

It intimidated me
I was comfortable

How comfortable did you feel saying "I don't know" when called upon?

Uncomfortable
Comfortable

I believe that it is important for good thinkers to be able to quickly come up to questions posed to them, particularly questions posed within the context of a current discussion. In interviews, you'll need to be able to answer a number of questions quickly. If you become consultants (or in almost anything you do), you'll often be asked for initial reactions. This belief is one of the reasons that I call on you in class.

Was that intent clear?

Yes
No

Any thoughts on class participation?

Wrapup

Is there anything else you'd like me to know?
