What is "sorting on disk"?
- It is the problem of sorting a data set, when that data set is
on disk, but too big to fit into memory.
What is Mitch Kapor known for?
- A variety of things. He developed the user interface to Lotus 1-2-3,
based on the original spreadsheet idea which he got from
VisiCalc. He was a cofounder of EFF, the Electronic Frontier
Foundation. He wrote the Software Design Manifesto, which
is chapter 1 of Winograd.
- Fun answers:
- His savvy taste in clothes.
Are there pointers in Java? Explain your answer.
- There are references, which are basically the same as pointers.
However, Java does not permit all the standard pointer
manipulations that a language like C permits. More
importantly, Java does not require you to dispose of
objects.
