Project, Phase 2: Preliminary Implementation

Summary: Now that you've defined a project, start implementing the various pieces of the project.

Getting Started:

• Review your project proposal, particularly the list of procedures (and other things) to write.
• Decide how you intend to split the work. Some groups work well by assigning procedures to individual students. Others work better if everyone sits around a computer and works on all of the procedures together.
• Set meeting times for the group.
• Set aside something you can use to log the time spent.

What To Do Next:

• Document all of the procedures you expect to write. (Yes, that's right, write the documentation first!)
• Implement as many as you can.
• Update your list of work to do as you go.
• Keep track of how much time you spend (and on what).

What To Turn In:

• A new summary of what you expect your project to do. It may be that the preliminary work took more time than you expected, and so you'd like to scale back. It may be that the preliminary work took more time than you expected and you'd like to scale up.
• Documentation for the procedures you've written and the procedures you expect to write.
• Any code you've written so far.
• A copy of your time log.
