MEETOO's mentions that Linux can coexist with Linux, this is a half-truth. Anyone who has tried to get both operating systems to work (dual boot) knows the horror. The sad fact is that Windows was not designed to play nice with other operating systems. For example Windows 98 (from my personal experience (Louis)) will not boot if Linux is detected on the system. Running Linux in windows is a different story, and tends to work well. Download.com has many Linux distributions designed to do just that. Apple has enbraced unix when it created OS X. OS X is a hybrid of unix and Macintosh software. Just more proof that more and more rational people are embracing Linux/Unix as the future of computing. Macintosh is only the tip of the ice berg when it comes to well-known companies that are embracing Linux as seen in point #7.
