This goes along with point #2, There is a multitude of different software available with every Linux distribution. Many other programs are available for download. Of course Windows has a wide arrange of programs that can be downloaded, but as the recent e-mail worm scare demonstrates, you have less to fear with Linux when opening downloaded software than windows (because viruses that effect Windows do not hurt Linux computers).
Linux is secure and superior for other reasons explained in point #5.
